AGRONOMY SECTION

  • To develop and test soil and moisture conservation techniques for dry land coffee production

  • To quantify and qualify the effects of new fertiliser and irrigation products recommended for use in the coffee production.

  • To compare effects of organic manuring in coffee production.

  • To study the development pattern of the coffee plant.

  • To test the agronomic aspects of all varieties introduced in the country.

  • To conduct soil fertility studies, playing a special attention to soil pH amendments.

 

ENTOMOLOGY SECTION

  • To evaluate different insecticidal products for their efficacy in the control of coffee insect pests.

  • To review insecticide registration data submitted by Agrochemical and recommend.

  •  To carry out research on the biology, ecology and management of the various insect pests.

  •  To identify natural enemies of different insect pests of coffee with a view to develop integrated pest management strategies.

  • To evaluate botanicals for their efficacy in the control of coffee insects pests.

  • To develop recommendations on the timing of insecticides for chemical management of insect pest outbreaks.

 

PLANT PATHOLOGY SECTION

  • To develop effective, cheap and sustainable technologies for the management of coffee diseases.

  • To carry out station and on-farm trials pertaining to coffee diseases and fungicide efficacy in all coffee growing areas in Zimbabwe

  • To provide coffee disease diagnosis and advisory services to all coffee farmers
