BACKGROUND Chiredzi Research Station became operational in 1967 with a mandate to carry out researches in olericulture, pomology, crop protection, irrigated agronomy, dry land agronomy, and socio economics. Chiredzi Research Station is located between latitude 20o S and longitude 311/2oand321/2o E in the South Eastern Lowveld of Zimbabwe. Chiredzi Research Station is situated in natural region v, rainfall ranges from 350 –500mm per annum with temperature ranging from 30o C – 40o C. The station carries out researches for all crops grown in the semi – arid regions of Zimbabwe. Vision To be the leading research institute for the generation and transfer demand driven crop production and utilization technology that will improve livelihoods in the semi arid region of Zimbabwe. Mission To develop, provide and promote appropriate crop production technologies, information and technical support through high quality research, extension, farmer training, co-ordination and liaison in the semi arid regions of Zimbabwe.
