AGRICULTURAL ENGINEERING AND MECHANIZATION

FUNCTIONS

  1. Plan for establishment of sustainable mechanisation programmes for the farming sector;
  2. Monitor and evaluate agricultural mechanisation programmes;
  3. Design, evaluate and supervise construction of farm infrastructure (animal handling facilities);
  4. Capacitate farmers, extension staff and operators on mechanisation technologies;
  5. Review and develop standards for agricultural machinery and equipment;
  6. Provide technical information on agricultural mechanisation;
  7. Promote conservation agriculture and sustainable energy technologies in agriculture;
  8. Research, develop and test agricultural machinery and equipment technologies;
  9. Facilitate, repair and maintain agricultural machinery and equipment; and
  10. Provide tillage services, repair, maintenance, mechanised weeding and pest control.

SOIL CONSERVATION AND POST HARVEST

FUNCTIONS

  1. Provide harvesting, processing (produce handling) and crop storage facilities;
  2. Produce designs, develop and supervise construction of farm structures;
  3. Capacitate farmers, extension staff and operators, on post-harvest and climate smart mechanisation technologies;
  4. Protect arable and non-arable land through pegging of soil and water conservation works;
  5. Supervise construction of coil and water conservation works and small dams / weirs (below eight (8) metres)
  6. Monitor and evaluate implemented mechanical soil and water conservation techniques;
  7. Conduct research on appropriate post-harvest and soil and water conservation technologies; and
  8. Promote appropriate tillage systems that conserve fuel, soil, and moisture (climate conservation agriculture).
